Top Colleges in South Carolina – University of South Carolina-Columbia – This well rounded public university is perhaps best known for the quality and innovation of its science and research programs. In addition to the school’s main campus in Columbia there are also satellite campuses in Aiken, Beaufort and Greenville as well as associated two year schools in Lancaster, Sumter, Salkehatchie and Union. Altogether across all the campuses 324 different educational degree programs are offered by the University of South Carolina.

Notable University of South Carolina alumni include NBA coaching legend Mike Dunleavy, all of the members of Hootie and the Blowfish, former White House chief of staff Andrew Card and TV host Leeza Gibbons.

Best Colleges in South Carolina – Coastal Carolina University – This school is rather unique in that it has made great use of its coastal location create some of the most innovative marine biology programs available anywhere in the country. The University even owns its own island – Waties Island – which has been used to create a sprawling natural laboratory for students to use. In addition to its science programs the school is also well known for the quality of its liberal arts programs in general.

Notable Coastal Carolina University alumni include Miami Dolphins quarterback Tyler Thigpen and the MLBs Luis Lopez and Kurt Mannering.
