The Advantages and Disadvantages of an Accelerated Bachelor’s Degree

The biggest reason most people who have already entered the world of work decide to go back to school is to earn a degree to further their career and eventually make more money. Returning to the academic world does however call for a great deal of sacrifice, not only in terms of money but of time as well. That is why accelerated bachelor’s degree programs are gaining in popularity. The less time they have to spend in school some think the better.

Are Accelerated Bachelor’s Degrees as Good as Traditional Ones?

There are those that are somewhat skeptical about these accelerated bachelor’s degree programs. They wonder if the same amount of coursework can really be covered in a shorter period of time and whether perhaps some crucial information is left untaught. However these degrees are offered by accredited schools and carry the same weight as a traditional bachelor’s degree so that concern may be a rather moot point.

How quickly can you earn an accelerated bachelor’s degree? At some schools in as little as two years, which basically cuts the duration of study in half.

The majority of accelerated bachelor’s degree programs are offered by online schools. Online schooling is of course primarily aimed at the already working adult who wants a degree to help further their current career or enter into a new field, so it makes perfect sense that they be the ones offering these kinds of fast track courses.

One does have to be a very disciplined kind of person to complete a degree online and the accelerated bachelor’s degree programs tend to be rather intense (so much to learn, so little time) so a student does have to be prepared for some hard work in order to complete one successfully.

Which Schools Offer Accelerated Bachelor’s Degree Programs?

As previously mentioned accelerated bachelor degree programs are mainly offered online but it is not just those thought of as online schools offering such programs via the internet to motivated students who want to get ahead faster. Some well known “bricks and mortar” colleges are beginning to offer these kinds of fast track degrees to internet students as well.

The most important consideration for students thinking about enrolling in any accelerated bachelor degree program really is their level of commitment to such a course of action.

The student studying online has to, for the most part, motivate themselves to get all their schoolwork done and that can be a tall order when they are also balancing a full time job and often raising a family instead.

When you are considering taking an accelerated bachelor’s degree course, ask an admissions counselor if you can review a sample schedule first. Many of these degree programs have a set amount of work to completed at anytime during the course of a single week. If you know approximately how much that is, you will be better able to judge if that is something that you will be able to keep up with and whether an accelerated bachelor’s degree program really is right for you.
